This document deals with statistics on the subject of white poverty in South Africa, and the text of a speech by Anton Barnard on the Confederate African Forum's meeting on July 24, 2004, which is the subject of white poverty.
Most of the information contained herein is derived from Statistics South Africa, and is based on the latest available data, the 2001 Census. The first section of this document outlines a demographic picture of the white: how many are there in SA, what does she maturity profile and its level of education. The next section looks at the realities of unemployment and poverty among whites, and finally the hope that economic growth South Africa's unemployment problems will solve discussed.
In a recent article in the Mail & Guardian newspaper published, Prof Lawrence Schlemmer is quoted: "Today 430,000 whites, of a total white population of 4.5 million-, are too poor to live in traditional white areas and 90,000 are in a survival struggle ". The SA Institute of Race Relations estimates that white unemployment by 74% increased between 1998 and 2002 compared to an average of 39% for all population groups.
