The Government of Indonesia, one of the largest global suppliers include nickel and bauxite, banned on Sunday (12.01) export of unprocessed ores. The ban is aimed at developing the local steel industry, but mine owners report their concerns.
- We have already started to lay off workers siavi and will continue to do so if the new ordinance will stop export siavi of ores. - Said Roy Kojongan, manager of one of the small nickel mine. He stressed that his company was forced to release more than half of its 100 employees.
Although President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono took out some of the resources under the new rules, it is still required processing in Indonesia siavi bauxite, siavi nickel, tin, chromium, gold and silver, prior to their export.
- We urge all miners to prepare to go out into the street and flooding manifesting the presidential palace, siavi if the government will continue to introduce new ban - said Juan Forti Silalahi of the National Union of Mineworkers.
