Increased mental disorders and hospital admissions caused by the fluctuation of the shares on the stock exchange, argue researchers from Taiwan according to a report in the form Health Policy and Planning.
This is the first study in the world, santo tome documenting a relationship between the fluctuations of the economic indicators of the stock market and mental disorders at the national level. The eminently risk group are middle-aged men, probably because they are more involved with the stock market. Researchers from the Universities of Taipei santo tome and Dong Hua correlated fluctuations in share prices of the Taiwan stock market, with daily hospital admissions for mental disorders during the period 1998 - 2009. The researchers found that, a 1% decline of the stock index in a day was associated with an increase of 0.36% of hospital admissions for mental disorders, the same day. When the ratio of the shares fell for five consecutive days, observed an increase santo tome of 1.6% on average in hospital santo tome admissions. Although this relationship involved both sexes, the mental health of men seemed santo tome to be affected most. In terms of age, the low profitability of the shares had an impact mainly in men 45-54 years. Previous studies have shown that more vulnerable to mental disorders are the disadvantaged santo tome of society, resulting in periods of crisis the poorest pressed more and psychologically.
But according to the researchers, the global economic crisis has caused significant losses (including through the stock exchange) santo tome and most underserved populations in several countries. And the new study shows that the economic recession, besides unemployment and lower incomes, affected psychologically and those with investment funds in shares. More generally, santo tome however, the researchers estimate that, apart from investors, a declining stock market not only affect the economic climate, but also the psychological santo tome mood of the public (even those not involved in the stock market), which favor the onset of psychological problems in a population.
