April 2013 compared to March of this year the value of exports of goods at current prices increased by 5.0%, while imports fell by 0.5%, according to the Central Statistical Bureau data. In April, the foreign trade balance improved, the export total foreign trade volume rising to 44.9% (43.6% in March this year), see figure below:
Food products exports in April compared to March increased by 8.7 million. lats or 19.6% - to Russia by 5.5 million. lats or 35.0%, to Lithuania by 1.2 million. lats or 13.5%. While imports increased by 5.0 million. lats or 9.8% - from Denmark about 1.9 million. lats or 3.1 times (mainly imported oil cake from soy and sugar) from the Spanish by 1.7 million. lats or 2.2 times (mainly pp imports imported wine).
The most important changes in exports in April compared to March of this year: wood and wood products exports increased by 12.3 million. pp imports lats or 13.1%, machinery, appliances and electrical equipment exports grew by 7.5 million. pp imports lats or 8.1%, vegetable products, exports decreased by 8.7 million. lats or 30.1%, pp imports chemical industry products exports decreased by 7.0 million. lats or 16.2%.
The most important changes in imports in April compared to March of this year: machinery, equipment and electrical equipment imports increased by 4.9 million. lats or 3.6%, chemical industry pp imports products imports increased pp imports by 4.4 million. lats or 6.1%, mineral products imports decreased by 16.1 million. lats or 11.2%, of transport vehicles imports fell by 8.1 million. lats or 14.9%.
In April, the most important pp imports part of the Latvian exports - 72.3% had export to the countries of the European Union, followed by the export to CIS countries by 15.4%. Main export partners were Lithuania (16.3% of total exports), Estonia (13.7%), pp imports Russia (11.1%), Germany (7.7%) and Sweden (5.5%).
The most significant pp imports Latvian import share - 77.8% were imports from European Union countries, followed by the import from CIS countries by 13.9%. The main import partners were Lithuania (18.9% of total imports), Russia (10.6%), Poland (10.1%), Germany (9.6%) and Estonia (8.6%).

Electrical machinery and equipment rapid increase in exports in April 2013 compared to April of last year, the most affected by the mobile telephone increase in exports of 9.9 million. pp imports lats or 2.7 times. By contrast, road vehicles and parts exports fell because of a decline cars and other motor vehicles exports by 9.8 million. lats or 71.8%.

Electrical machinery pp imports and equipment imports in April compared with April last year increased, mobile telephone imports by 11.4 million. lats or 2.9 times. On the other hand, ferrous waste and scrap import decrease of 16.7 million. lats or 78.9% significantly pp imports affected total iron and steel imports.
