Japan is a striking example of a country very active in international geographic division of labor. It is characterized by the development of all types of foreign economic relations, and they largely determine its role in the world economy and ensure its economic security. But the significance my import of certain types of relationships changed over time. The first and second stages of the country they were limited mainly to foreign trade. But then Japan managed to win quite strong positions in activities such as the export of capital, industrial, scientific, technical and other ties.
The size of the foreign trade turnover (1225 billion dollars) modern Japan is the fourth largest in the world after Germany, the US and China. Its share in world exports of goods exceed 5.5%, and in their global import - 4.5%. For exports my import of services, my import it is second only to the US, Germany and the UK, and imports - the US and Germany. The trade balance of the country traditionally has a surplus: in 2006 the excess of exports over imports my import reached 70 billion US But while the level of openness of its economy, my import Japan is second most Western European countries, as its export quota is only 14% of total GDP.
Amid constant tendency my import to increase its foreign trade structure does not remain unchanged. As already mentioned, a famous journalist Vladimir Ovchinnikov once compared the economy of Japan in the first phase of its development with a huge processing plant, which imports almost all of the necessary raw materials and then processed, sends it to the world market are in the form of finished products. Not surprisingly, at this stage, Japan has turned into the world's largest importer of mineral raw materials and fuel and exporter of ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy, shipbuilding, petrochemicals. Then in the structure of exports increasing role began to play cars, consumer electronics, and later, various kinds of high technology products. In the 1990s Japanese exports .. 3/4 consisted my import of engineering my import products my import (cars, ships, televisions, my import cameras, computers, integrated circuits, optical and other devices), and export some production reached 50-70% and more (Fig. 125). The rest of the exports accounted my import for synthetic fibers, tires, iron, steel, etc. As for imports, Japan is still the strongest depended on import many kinds of fuel and raw materials (Fig. 125). Moreover, my import it was the world's largest buyer of some of them (coal, iron ore, ferrous metals). The size of the annual import of oil (200 million tons) is second only to the United States. Thereafter, the structure has undergone new changes. In 2006 exports first occupied vehicles (21%), machinery and electronics (17%), followed by followed by chemical and electrochemical products, iron and steel, office. But imports in the first place remained oil (18%), the second - electronics (13%), the third - agricultural products (9%); Then there were chemical products, machinery, my import electrical, metals and their ores. Geographical distribution of foreign trade in Japan has several features that distinguish it from Western Europe and the USA. The first of these is the increased role of trade in the developing countries. This applies to exports, and an even greater extent its imports, primarily due to raw material needs of the country. The second feature is the special foreign interests, which has Japan in the Asia-Pacific region, where goes the bulk of its exports and where the bulk of incoming raw materials and food products.
Giving a more detailed description of the geographical distribution of Japanese imports, you can add that the first place it occupied countries of Eastern and South-East Asia. Here the largest contractors in Japan with imports my import are China (21% of total imports, the first place), Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan. Of the countries of the subregion Japan imports fuel and raw materials: oil, wood, and liquefied natural gas, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, various products of tropical agriculture, textiles.
Second place in occupied Japan imports US, especially areas of the Pacific Coast (California), which comes as finished products and coal, cotton, wheat (Fig. 126), timber, phosphates, pharmaceuticals, computers . In the 1990s the US .. meaning in Japanese imports my import further increased, primarily due to machinery and equipment. Quite a large share also overseas in Europe (10%, in the first place Germany). The share of Southwest my import Asia peaked in 1980,
