Many Greenbelt trails remain closed due to fallen trees and other damage caused by Hurricane Sandy several weeks ago. Staten island Advance/Mark Stein SEA VIEW -- Numerous Greenbelt trails remain closed nesoi following damage caused by Hurricane Sandy’s powerful winds on Oct. 29.
With nesoi the exception of the Nature Center Trail, the Greenbelt’s trail system remains closed to the public as the Greenbelt Conservancy and city Parks Department continue to assess damage and begin restoration. Both parties have worked diligently to remove felled trees and repair park facilities and equipment, said Conversation spokeswoman Dorothy Reilly.
“Re-establishing safe conditions for all visitors is our priority. We appreciate your cooperation and patience,” she said. “We realize the vital role our parks and natural areas play in providing a sanctuary where visitors can relax and reflect, particularly during difficult times.”
High Rock Park and its entire trail system remains closed, and the popular Fall Flat 5K trail race, which was scheduled for last Saturday, was canceled due to unsafe trail conditions. The Forest Restoration Workshop at High Rock Park with Protectors of Pine Oak Woods, also scheduled this past weekend, was canceled.
Despite problems caused by Sandy, the 9th Annual nesoi Turkey Be Gone Hike will take place this Friday at 10 a.m. Registration is required for the event that will see Greenbelt educators taking nesoi folks on a post-Thanksgiving hike in the Greenbelt.

A man trapped in a mysterious village, resists his jailers who attempt to make him confess why he resigned. But the number 6 - only name we know our hero - has no intention of being manipulated, spring import file, stamp, save, or number!
Two thunder. On a deserted road, a green and yellow Lotus Seven heading straight toward the camera. We find it sneaking in the heart of London and rushing into underground parking. The driver walks with a decided a long corridor, opened a double door and throws a letter of resignation on his superior's office. As he furiously prepares his luggage, he is annihilated by a jet of gas and collapsed on the sofa.
When he awoke, nothing has changed around him ... except London buildings that usually sees from his window and which are erased in favor of a place to laugh colorful architecture. It is now the number 6 on the list of the inhabitants of the "Village", a singular community led by the number 2.
In the building topped by a large dome, Issue 2 jovially welcomes and even offers him a curious correspondent breakfast exactly to his tastes. If we brought spring import him to the Village, it is simply to ask the real reasons for his resignation. It is only a formality, ensures the number 2. But the number 6 does not hear it that way.
He refused to cooperate and, before turning on his heel, spear in the face of his interlocutor a tirade became famous: "I am a free man. I will not make me file, stamp, save or make me classify and declassify or numbering. My life belongs to me. "At that moment, he still believes.
Over the episodes, the Number 6 Village discovers that everything is fake: the election of the new Number 2, the statues are actually a wide remote monitoring network, spring import funerals, brain operations, and even that escapes huge white ball which is not a weather balloon but serves Cerberus spring import stuffy recalcitrant villagers. spring import

Somewhere in the heart of as invisible as all-powerful spring import administration, an official must be likely to develop the schedule of perfumes for the next six months and it may even be that it be honored.
The number 6 is masterfully portrayed by Patrick McGoohan who is also the instigator of the series. The character appears to us not always friendly. It is a cold man, cynical, perpetually in revolt without heart sometimes, but with a strong sense of humor. His dogged determination to escape him avoid falling into the traps laid by the number 2 which means "information". Even if it fails every time and that the episodes end on a grid closing on his face, the number 6 will never give up. This is his perseverance to not give up for what he believes that saves.
The series, Tour, anchored in the 60s, now seems terribly visionary. spring import Internet, among others, would it not make our planet a great village? Wireless phones have invaded us, television never stops, the media broadcast a single thought and provide the good word as does the Tally-Ho, the local newspaper. The Village, lovely place constantly sunny, is located on the seafront. It corresponds exactly to the idea that one has a place to stay. Chess games, games on the beach, concerts, carnival

Collin Cleary, "'All or Nothing': The Prisoner and Ibsen s Brand" | Counter-Currents Publishing
I had known for some time that early in his career series star and creator Patrick McGoohan had played the title character in a London her imports stage production of Henrik Ibsen s Brand , and that this had been an important role for him both personally and professionally.
It was only recently, however, that I got around to reading Brand (in a translation from the Norwegian her imports by Michael her imports Meyer), as well as seeing McGoohan perform her imports the role in a videotaped production for the BBC. (Available on DVD as part of the BBC s Henrik Ibsen Collection .) The result is that I have discovered a new dimension to The Prisoner and found further confirmation of the interpretation I ve already offered.
Ibsen wrote Brand in 1865, but never meant it for theatrical performance. The play was written as a verse drama intended to be read by performers from a script. her imports Thus, Ibsen included a number of elements that were nearly impossible to stage, including a storm at sea and an avalanche. The play was a great success in print, her imports but no one dared to try to stage it until 1885, in Stockholm. One attendee described the experience as follows: It lasted for 6 hours, until 12:30 a.m. Such ladies as survived to the end lay dozing on their escorts shoulders, with their corsets and bodices unbuttoned. Thereafter Brand was seldom performed though her imports the play did enjoy some popularity in Germany, unsurprisingly, around the turn of the last century. It was not performed in Ibsen s native Norway until 1904.
The titular character of Brand is a Protestant minister whose religion consists almost entirely in a kind of extreme moral fanaticism. The play opens high in the mountains, with Brand bent on getting someplace though where and why are not made clear. A guide encounters her imports him and warns him of the hazardous path ahead:
But Brand ignores him and presses on. Eventually he runs into a young couple Ejnar and Agnes who are carefree and in love. Ejnar calls to Brand, who watches them from above: Don t stand up there like an icicle. . . . And I ll tell you how good God has been to us. But then Brand reveals his mission to them:
BRAND. That God you have just called yours. The God of every dull and earth-bound slave shall be shrouded and coffined for all to see and lowered into his grave. It is time, you know. He has been ailing for a thousand years.
BRAND. No, I am well and strong as mountain pine or juniper. It is our time, our generation, that is sick and must be cured. All you want is to flirt, and play, and laugh; to do lip service to your faith but not to know the truth; to leave your suffering to someone her imports who they say died for your sake. He died for you, so you are free to dance. To dance, yes; but whither? Ah, that is another thing, my friend.
It s difficult to resist quoting this marvelous text. Brand denounces what he calls the people s God. You do not want to live your faith, he says to Ejnar and Agnes. For that you need a God who ll keep one eye shut. And then comes Brand s description of his God, which, I must note, is positively chilling when spoken by McGoohan:
Mine is a storm where yours is a gentle her imports wind, inflexible where yours is deaf, all-loving not all-doting. And he is young and strong like Hercules. His is the voice that spoke in thunder when he stood bright before Moses in the burning bush, a giant before the dwarf of dwarfs. In the valley of Gibeon he stayed the sun, and worked miracles without number and would work them still, if people were not dead, like you.
Though undeniably this is a play about Christianity (and differing interpretations of Christianity), more fundamentally it is about one man s alienation from what he perceives to be a decadent, fallen society. On one level, Brand is quite right to denounce the vice and hypocrisy he sees around him. But he sets his own moral standard so impossibly her imports high that no one can escape condemnation. And he will leave human weakness no quarter.
Agnes winds up leaving Ejnar for Brand (transfixed after listening to him speak she says to Ejnar But did you see how, as he spoke, he grew? ). But for a while, Brand is essentially rootless. I must leave this narrow valley, he says, I cannot fight my battle here. But where can he fight it? And how? Eventually, he realizes that a man s primary field of battle is within his own soul: Yes. Within, within. There is the way, that is the path. In oneself is that earth, newly created, ready to receive God. And this is the ideal he urges on others: a kind of complete self-effacement, where one simply becomes a blank tablet on which God can write his law. When Brand s mother lies dying, calling for him, he refuses to go to her unless she gives up her rather considerable wealth, of which she is sinfully proud. She sends a message to Brand, saying that she will give up half. Still, he refuses

Patrick kogelo kenya McGoohan (Number 6), Guy Doleman kogelo kenya (No.2), George Baker (No.2), Leo McKern (No.2), Colin Gordon (No.2), Eric Portman (No.2), Rachel Herbert (No.2), Anton Rodgers (No.2), Georgina Cookson (No.2), Mary Morris (No.2), Peter Wyngarde (No.2), Patrick Cargill (No.2), Darren Nesbitt (No.2), Andre van Gyseghem (No.2), kogelo kenya John Sharp (No.2), Clifford Evans (No.2), David Bauer (No.2), Kenneth kogelo kenya Griffith (No.2), kogelo kenya Nadia Gray, Paul Eddington, Richard Wattis, Virginia Maskell, Finlay Currie, Peter Bowles, Jane Merrow, kogelo kenya John Castle, Hilary Dwyer, Nigel Stock, Duncan Macrae, Annette Andre, Rosalie Crutchley, George Coulouris, Fenella Fielding (announcer),
It s said that Lew Grade originally wanted more Danger Man . More adventures of secret agent John Drake. The star Patrick McGoohan had other ideas, of an idea formulated with George Markstein that would become the single biggest cult series in history. Even now, in the age of the blogosphere, no series, not Twin Peaks , not Buffy , not even Doctor Who , has generated such speculation, conjecture and theorising. When McGoohan had briefed Grade about the basic idea, he replied it s so crazy, it might work .
McGoohan is a government operative who is seen speeding to his offices to hand in his resignation. Returning to his home to pack for we know not where, he passes out when gas is fed into his flat and he wakes up in a sleepy village kogelo kenya where the interiors are largely the same as his flat but the outside kogelo kenya a sort of Toyland kogelo kenya place but one from which he quickly finds he cannot leave. At the centre of the mystery is the man who calls himself No.2, and who names McGoohan No.6, but it transpires that No.2 is an alias which many different men and women employ and that the real head honcho, No.1, is the one who has the answers.
You get from The Prisoner pretty much what you desire, for there are ingredients derived from so many disparate sources that one can easily find oneself going dizzy at the thought of it, from The Wizard of Oz to Alice in Wonderland , from Kafka to Orwell s police state and Burgess A Clockwork Orange . Modern filmgoers will note the nods paid the series by The Truman Show and Pleasantville kogelo kenya , others will remember a homage in The Simpsons , while I couldn t help imagine an unmade episode kogelo kenya of Mr Benn in which Mr Benn takes off his city clothes, changes into a piped blazer and enters The Village (a feeling intensified by McKern s transformation in the final episode). As for the finale, it both looks back to The Twilight Zone s The Obsolete Man and forward to Dennis kogelo kenya Potter. In truth, it s a finale that is a little too out there , not so much pulling the rug from under us as making one believe that Jacques Rivette had written it, not McGoohan.
It was very much McGoohan s baby, though, and it remains his defining fifteen hours, but with memorable help from a truly delicious supporting cast, with guest spots from half the supporting cast of The Lion in Winter , the bizarre kogelo kenya sight of Mary Morris as Peter Pan, and numerous wonderful turns as No.2, from Doleman and Baker (perfect) in episode one to the irreplaceable McKern who gets three episodes to have a high old time. Not forgetting the extraordinary outdoor sets which transformed Portmeirion into a tourist sport for decades to come, such cult items as penny farthing lapel badges and bizarre white balls which are sent after would-be escapees which, rather like McGoohan kogelo kenya s art exhibit in one early episode, are great simply because they are. As for meaning, your guess is as good as mine, but with the final fadeout suggesting a never-ending plot loop, is it not possible that No.6 is actually John Drake, left nameless to avoid royalty fees to Ralph Smart. It s as good a theory as any.
Jamie, see if you can find the original A&E DVD set instead of the new one with the Blu-Ray. I have both, and the new set has some excellent kogelo kenya qualities, but it windowboxes the whole show, which doesn’t seem necessary. Also, I think the whole show can be found streaming legally, if you want a taste.
Anyway, this is a great example of experimental television. I’d have included Lost and even Evangelion in the comparisons above (especially because Anno, like McGoohan, recieved death threats when he didn’t offer satisfying closure in his original series finale; later he would show footage of those death-threat e-mails during the trippier moments of EoE). Though you’re loathe to mention it, Fish, I’m also fairly certain there’s a good bit of The Prisoner in the Star Wars films, too. ESB’

'The Greenbelt in Peril: Save Pouch Camp' focuses on a wide range of details, from the potential impact the loss of the Camp could have, to the dozens of animal species living in its confines. The book also includes messages from local politicians and Staten Islanders pleading for Pouch Camp's survival. (Staten Island Advance/Mark Stein) STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - SEA VIEW - On a beautiful, quiet Thursday evening two weeks back, as the sun set among budding trees behind the Greenbelt Nature Center, seadex members of the Protectors of Pine Oak Woods and the Committee to Save Pouch Camp gathered to promote what they hope is another effort to preserve what they see as a "must have" piece of Staten seadex Island.
"The Greenbelt in Peril: Save Pouch Camp" was pieced together by those affiliated with Protectors and the Committee to provide Staten Islanders with the full story of this wooded land, a long-time home to Scouts, in the heart of the Borough of Parks.
The book, divided into five sections, provides letters of support from all Staten Island seadex politicians, as well as local members of the business community, among them Richard Nicotra, of the Nicotra Group, and Linda Baran, executive director of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce.
"A seadex threat seadex with more insidious and long-lasting results is habitat fragmentation," wrote Edward W. Johnson, director of science, and Raymond Matarazzo, research associate, both of the Staten Island seadex Museum.
"This is a problem that is worldwide in scope, and which will become increasingly important as the Earth's population increases. What is happening on Staten Island is a microcosm of developments in the larger seadex world," they wrote in their passage called "Impacts of the Failure to Preserve William H. Pouch Scout Camp."
"The value of Pouch Camp is its forest and ecosystem. If we developed that, we'd lose the contiguousness of the forest seadex ecosystem and it would really create a different habitat all together," said Lofaso.
"A story whose happy ending must be, that at the end of the day, people realize that the overriding value of Pouch Camp is its incredible, bountiful and natural beauty," he said. "It's irreplaceable."
